JUNE 2018


Lions President Ian Christie presented a cheque for £500 to Blind Veterans UK specifically to be used at their Ovingdean Centre.  


The presentation took  place in their sensory garden given to Blind Veterans UK after winning a gold medal as one of the show gardens at The Hampton Court Flower Show in 2017.  


The garden is now located in the inner garden at their Ovingdean Centre and is a stunning spectacle.  Lesley Garven, the Centre Manager, was delighted to receive the money and said it will be used towards helping to maintain the garden.

JUNE 2018


Rottingdean & Saltdean Lions held their Annual Lions Fayre on Rottingdean Village Green on 16 June 2018.. 


Lion President Ian Christie opened the event and hoped that everyone would enjoy the day.  


A varied programme of arena events, activities and stalls made for a successful event. 


The Lions would like to thank everyone who supported the Fayre.

JUNE 2018


Lion President Ian Christie visited Rudyard Kipling Primary School to present books to Reception Class pupils.  Parents were there too to see their sons and daughters receive these and Ian said “he was delighted to present these books and hoped they would encourage the children to continue reading."  Judging by the reaction of the children he was sure this would be the case.


This was the last in a round of book presentations to local Primary Schools to celebrate the Centennial of Lions Clubs International.

31 MAY 2018


45 local Senior Citizens enjoyed a full day Coach Trip to Arundel Cathedral Corpus Christi Festival, accompanied by Lion David Endersby, his wife and Lions Norman Watson and John Ewbank.  


The floral carpet along the Centre Aisle was very impressive, as were the other floral displays around the perimeter of the Cathedral.  


This was followed by a Cream Tea and retail therapy at Haskins Garden Centre, Rustington.

Thanks to Woodingdean Co-op we were able to put an information table out for the day to let residents know what we do and what we can do for them.  


We also found some potential members and seniors who wished to join our invitation list for coach outings and the Christmas lunches

Lion President Ian Christie with Lion Andy Wavell attended an assembly at St Margaret’s School, Rottingdean, to present Acting Head Clare Price with a plaque to commemorate the gift from the Lions of £1,896.66 to cover the cost of new fiction books for the school library.  


Ian said ‘It is wonderful to help equip the new school library in this way and we are delighted to see the use the students are making of the new books already.'

2017 ANNUAL SPONSORED SWIM


Every year, the team who raise most money at the R&S Lions’ sponsored swim are presented with the club’s Challenge Shield, which they hold till the next Swim. 


In 2017 the successful team was “Scor!”. Lion President, Ian Christie, said:


‘I was particularly pleased to present the Shield to Scor! as they were a new team to the event, and to raise the most money at their first time attempt was a brilliant effort. As well as the team’s swimmers, our thanks are due to the team captain, Ellie Mark, fellow parent, Anna Lindmark, and their partners for their efforts in raising so much money.’

FEBRUARY 2018


Lion President, Ian Christie, and club member Brian Cook were pleased to present a cheque for £1250 to Joanne Moss, Fundraiser for Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice. The money was raised at the Rottingdean and Saltdean Lions' annual sponsored swim in November 2017.

 

Ian said: "I'm pleased that we were once again able to make a sizeable donation to the hospice, thanks to the efforts of the teams who raised sponsorship through the Swim. I hope this year's Swim will be even more successful, particularly as it takes place in November (on Sunday 18th), the month that the hospice celebrates its 15th birthday.

FEBRUARY 2018


Lion President Ian Christie presented a certificate of appreciation to Suresh McMillan,Senior Partner of McMillan Wealth Management in Rottingdean.

 

This was in recognition of their donation of £500 at our auction in December 2017.

DECEMBER 2017


As part of Service to the community Rottingdean and Saltdean Lions hosted two Christmas lunches at the White Horse in Rottingdean for local Senior Citizens.  Over 70 people attended the two events which, judging by the comments received, were enjoyed by all.

DECEMBER 2017


President Ian Christie along with Father Christmas and Lion Andy Wavell attended Woodingdean Primary School to distribute books to the reception class.  This was part of the Lions Centennial Project of giving books to children in all the local schools.  Father Christmas had a great reception and from comments received afterwards the children were pleased to receive their books.

NOVEMBER 2017


Many thanks to Longridge Avenue Co-op for their help & support to Rottingdean & Saltdean Lions. We received a cheque for £4,240.99 from the recent round of the Coop Community Fund. This money will be used to buy local schools' reception year children books they can keep.
