Race Night

Everyone who came to the race night on 17th March thoughly enjoyed themselves, especially those who backed the winners! The best thing about the evening was the fact that in excess of £600-00 was raised for Martlets, one of the local charities we support.

It’s a Knockout - Zone Event

Along with the other 6 clubs in Zone 2A we helped host an It’s a Knockout event, at the Deans Leisure Centre on Sunday 4th March, for 4 teams of people with learning difficulties. This has now become an annual event and is greatly enjoyed by the participants and Lions, especially our Lion President David as can be seen from the photos of him enthusiastically encouraging the contestants and taking part. The Brighton & Hove Mayor attended to present the prizes and ‘Leo’ the Lion also put in an appearance to cheer on the teams.

On a fine day in September ten teams took place in the 2001 Annual Lions Golf Day at East Brighton Golf Course. The round of golf was followed by a very friendly dinner with an auction and the prizegiving by the President. Activenture Day

On 25th August we entertained 45 teenage clients with their one to one same age carers plus a number of staff to a day out. The first stop was Blackberry Farm, just north of Lewes, where they could see and pet the animals. Then onto Brighton Pier for as many rides as they wished, courtesy of Nobles, and of course the traditional ice cream. After which it was back to the Scout field in Rottingdean for a bar-b-q, more games and music. A great time was had by all.

Christmas Lunch

We entertained 120 senior citizens, from Rottingdean, Saltdean, Woodingdean and Ovingdean, to 2 Christmas lunches, at the White Horse Hotel during early December. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food and more importantly they all had a great time chatting away and in many cases making some new friends and acquaintances to get together with during the coming year.

St Aubyns Concert

The St Aubyns concert went very well with a full house, we exchanged advanced purchased tickets for a raffle ticket at the door, all those who didn’t have a ticket were admitted for the price of the raffle ticket. This raised money taken on the door to £31. (Every little helps)!

Rottingdean Club Presentation

During 2011 the Rottingdean Club raised a total of £555 from their weekly lottery draw all of which was donated to our Lions Club. In recognition of this Lion President David presented the Club with a certificate of appreciation, which was gratefully received by Jo Pratt and other members of staff at the Club. They were clearly delighted as a nail had been put in the wall and the certificate was on display before we finished our pint!

Coastway Vets Donation to the Lions

In celebration of 25 years providing veterinary services in Rottingdean, Coastway vets chose 2 charities to benefit from donations nominated by the patients (well actually their owners). The beneficiaries were the Kit Wilson Trust for Animal Welfare and Rottingdean & Saltdean Lions Club. Our president Lion David gratefully accepted a cheque for £200 from vet Bronwen Eastwood.

Coastway Vets have also supported us for many years sponsoring our annual Dog Show at the Saltdean Gala and you may recognise Bronwen who is one of the judges.

In recognition of their support Lion President David presented them with a Lions Certificate of Appreciation.

Swimarathon

Due to problems with the integrity of the Swimming Pool at Roedean, The Annual Swimarathon was re-scheduled to 20th November when the Pool repairs were complete. Whist the number of teams taking part was less than we had hoped nontheless, a successfull Event ensued with the hope that monies raised could well reach £2000.
